During a recent site inspection trip to our Northern neighbour, Namibia, we were fortunate enough to enjoy one exhilirating African Moment after the next. By clicking on the link, you can get a glimpse into this fascinating country, with its endless open spaces, incredible landscapes and peaceful surroundings. We hope it will inspire you to journey there soon!
It’s hard to say, which of the many highlights along the route was our personal favourite, but if we had to choose, we would pick Okonjima Game Reserve. This exceptional game reserve is conveniently situated between Windhoek and Etosha National park and offers all the comforts of a first-class safari lodge and is an outstanding example in the conservation of both fauna and flora alike.
We overnighted at Okonjima Bush Camp, where the large chalets, each with their own additional outside sala (game-viewing chalet), were a destination in their own right. Every conceivable luxury has been thought of and the rooms provide breathtaking views over the African plains. One has the feeling of being surrounded by nature and one simply doesn’t get tired of admiring the fascinating wildlife, both big and small, that comes to drink at the waterhole in front of one’s chalet.
Okonjima Plains Camp, the Grand African Villa and the Private Bush Suite complement the accommodation offering on the reserve. There is something to suit everyone’s taste and budget!
Okonjima is family-run and owned and the passion can be seen in all that they do. All Tourism initiatives on the reserve go towards supporting the AfriCat foundation, which has been protecting Africa’s magnificent large cat species since the 1990s. The reserve not only provides a safe haven for leopards, cheetahs, lions and many more wildlife species, but the AfriCat foundation also aims to educate the widest possible audience about the behaviour and protection of these rare animals. Expert rangers will share first-hand, intimate knowledge of these majestic creatures with each of their guests on the various guided activities on offer.
Our conclusion:
For anyone looking for an authentic African atmosphere, friendly hospitality and exhilarating wildlife experiences, we highly recommend including at least a two-night stay at Okonjima on their journey to Namibia. Our stay there was a truly priceless African Moment at the end of our two week inspection trip… a journey in which we were able to experience Namibia in all its fascinating facets and nuances.
