Nowhere else will you get so close into contact with the true essence of Africa as you will while on an authentic safari. The African Moments team has been fortunate to have visited many wonderful game reserves, but what awaited us at the new Settlers Drift lodge in the Kariega Game Reserve exceeded all our expectations. The passion for the unique surroundings is obvious in all that the Kariega team do and the sensitive ecological design allowed a luxurious paradise to emerge for both man and nature alike.
The arrival is spectacular: a boat takes guests along the meandering Bushman’s River straight into the Kariega Game Reserve and allows for first encounters with buck, wildebeest, giraffes and zebra grazing along the river bank. Together with the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino), the so-called “plains game” seem to be in their element in this 10 000 ha. reserve.
The vision of the Rushmere & Fuller families, the custodians of the reserve, is to conserve both flora and fauna for many generations to come. In so doing, providing a uniquely intimate and truly memorable African experience.
Settlers Drift is one of five lodges that were built in this beautiful wilderness, and the only one with a well-deserved 5 stars. Every element is luxurious, in an understated and tasteful manner. The tented safari suites are built from natural materials and give maximum privacy in the relaxation time between the exhilarating dawn and dusk safaris. Did we already mention that that the hospitality, service and food quality are second to none?
Our conclusion:
Settlers Drift is right up there with the very best that the safari world has to offer. We have rarely seen such a warm and hospitable team that turns every wish into reality. We absolutely loved the harmonious architectural concept. Last but not least, thank you to the rangers, who shared their wealth of knowledge and their love of wildlife with us.
