No sooner had Claudia and her family arrived in Cape Town, they handed over the baton, in order for us to begin our next site-inspection trip. This time it led us to the place where the love for Africa’s South often begins: through the little Karoo, along the lush Garden Route towards the so-called ‘Wild Coast’ on South Africa’s south-eastern shore. Just past Port Elizabeth (locally known as ‘iBhayi’), there are numerous fantastic malaria-free game reserves such as the Lalibela Game Reserve. A visit to the renowned, state-run, Addo Elephant National Park can easily be combined with staying in one of the private game lodges in the nearby area. Or simply spend a few nights in the extraordinary Gorah Elephant Camp situated on a private concession within this pristine conservation area.
This exclusive lodge recaptures the romantic mystique of authentic safaris from centuries past. Experience the breathtaking natural world of Africa merged with colonial nostalgia and modern sophistication, to deliver an unforgettably unique 5-star adventure. Gorah is the only private concession and Camp situated amidst the famous Addo Elephant National Park, home to the densest population of elephants on earth. Nicola Schwim and the Hunter family team have been passionate conservators of this magical place for many years, which is now home to the Big 5 and is malaria-free. The thrill of quietly watching a herd of elephants stroll by, while sipping tea on the veranda of a stately colonial manor house – these are truly unforgettable African Moments!
Our conclusion:
Not only does the African Moments Team choose partners that offer our clients the very best in service-excellence, but we also endeavour to carefully select service providers that have a high social and ecological ethic. Having been fortunate enough to experience many a wonderful African Safari, we can say that this is particularly true for Gorah Elephant Camp! They have actively dedicated themselves to the conservation of the Addo National Park through initiatives that aim to formally protect the surrounding areas. They also support the The Langbos Community Crèche in Addo. Through Gorah’s continuous involvement with the crèche and thanks to donations by guests, the children have a place to develop, grow and play. To experience Gorah is to get a taste of the history of this fascinating country. Discover its captivating rhythm that calls for adventure and fills your soul with an intense passion for the ever-changing landscape, the majestic animals and the cultural diversity.
