In the midst of the Cape’s wine harvesting season, the African Moments team headed out to Stellenbosch, the second oldest wine region in South Africa. At the end of a picturesque valley and off the beaten track, we discovered a real gem: the Jordan Wine Estate.
Jordan offers outstanding wines, delectable cuisine and luxury accommodation, tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of paradise in the heart of the traditional Cape Winelands.
Lovers of South African wines have probably heard the name Jordan before. The estate is renowned for exquisite wines, thanks to the high level of expertise of owners Gary and Kathy Jordan, as well as to its exceptional location. Unique by nature’s design, the Jordan slopes face North, South, East and West, with the vineyards lying at differing altitudes, benefitting from their close proximity to both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and the mild, Mediterranean climate.
Seeing that excellent wine and outstanding cuisine go hand-in-hand, the award-winning winemaker coupler brought in the ideal partner to the estate: George Jardine. The collaboration brings together one of the country’s best known and respected wineries, with highly acclaimed chef, George Jardine, who proudly runs the Jordan Restaurant. The menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients sourced from South Africa’s best suppliers and producers. Highly trained and friendly staff will allow you to enjoy the tantalizing combination of Jordan’s wine and cuisine, while enjoying a magnificent view over the vineyards and mountains. What better way to end of the evening, than by enjoying a peaceful night in one of Jordan’s elegant suites?
Our conclusion:
The concept of Jordan Wine Estate, Jordan Restaurant and the luxurious suites fits together like hand and glove, meeting the most discerning of standards. Good thing though, that all this does not come with stiff atmosphere, rather with warm and heartfelt hospitality. The locally-employed staff has world-class hospitality training, yet retain their infectious South African humor and joy for life. Something really refreshing to behold in a place of this calibre.
